On May 29th, 2007, 18-year-old Mark Grichevsky was struck by a car while riding his bike near his home in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. He was thrown from his bike and suffered fatal head injuries, despite wearing a helmet. Four days later, he passed away in the hospital.
Mark was a student at the City as School. Just days before the crash, he had rowed with his fellow students down the Hudson from Clearwater to NYC over several days and nights. Mark was also an intern at Recycle-a-Bicycle.
On June 17th, many of his Recycle-a-Bicycle colleagues, his family, and friends participated in a memorial ride to dedicate a ghost bike to Mark.
Mark's death was never reported in the news.
