The unnamed cyclist was struck by a white passenger van and pronounced dead at the scene. Police determined that the driver of the van, Alfred Taylor, 41, of Brooklyn, had been speeding and arrested him.

Taylor was charged with criminally negligent homicide. This is perhaps the only known case where a driver has been charged in conjunction with the death of a cyclist where the driver did not flee the scene and was not determined to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

This occurred just two hours after Craig Murphey was killed in Williamsburg.
